Many people speak to the indifference this world has towards the things of God. Looking at some of the things that have taken place in our own country over the past few months, it would be easy to come to such a conclusion. However, I am finding more and more doors open to the gospel of Jesus Christ being proclaimed than at any other time in my life. And I believe the two have something to do with each other.
Are there great atrocities and injustices in this world today that are deplorable? Absolutely! Just listen to or read a daily news feed and you will hear of senseless murders, recent overdoses, children being removed from parents due to neglect, fires that have destroyed homes, villages in distant areas experiencing forms of genocide, a car accident taking a beloved police-officer, a 16 year old dying from an asthma attack, politicians pushing for new laws that go directly against God’s Laws, and on and on I could go (these are all actual stories from news feeds I have read during February 2019). Yet, each of the people who are part of these heart-breaking stories have something in common – the need for HOPE.
Thankfully, those of us who are in Christ have hope. And it’s a living hope because the One for whom we put such hope in is alive – the resurrected Lord Jesus! And believe it or not, this “Living Hope” is not only needed by all who are struggling in this world, but wanted, if only someone would show them how to experience such hope, firsthand.
As I work in different places around our world today, seeing so many hurting, desperate, hopeless people in each place I go, I now realize that all of those hurts and struggles and injustices are actually open doors for me to share and show God’s love. And guess what? God’s love trumps the world’s woes!
What door is in front of you right now that you need to unlatch the lock and walk through with the hope of Jesus? Whatever it is, just do it! And as you do, you will be used by God to help someone’s hopelessness be changed into eternal hope. There are few things in this world that brings as much joy as bringing hope to someone who has been hopeless. Now is the time to walk through those doors.
